Earle Thomas
THOMAS, EARLE SCHWARTZ - Passed away at the Kingston General Hospital, Kingston, Ont. on Thursday, January 24, 2013 after a short illness. He was the husband of Faith Ingraham Thomas. Earle was born on the Thomas family farm at Tay Creek, New Brunswick on July 12, 1916. He was the son of the late Charles Herbert Thomas and the late Ida Isabel Schwartz. He was 96 1/2. He graduated from the Fredericton High School and the New Brunswick Normal School he spent several years teaching in various parts of New Brunswick before joining the RCAF and serving in WW11 for nearly five years. He leaves behind his wife of more than 70 years, Faith Ingraham Thomas and three much loved children: Judith Gilbert of Grand Forks, BC, Graham Thomas of Kingston, Ont. and Andrew Thomas (Alicia Borisonik) of Gatineau, Que. He also is survived by three wonderful grandchildren and three delightful great- grandchildren as well as by his sister Clara Allen of Edmonton, Alberta and brothers: Allan Thomas of Kamloops, BC and Irvine Thomas (Faye) and Robert Thomas (Dorothy) both of Fredericton NB also several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Earle was predeceased by sisters: Mary Bartlett, Verna Wilson, Jean Wilson Randall, and brothers: George Thomas, Ralph Thomas and Eldon Thomas. After his discharge from the RCAF, Earle carried on with his education, earning an honours BA from UNB and an MA from Queens University, Kingston, Ont. He and his family moved to Montreal where he had accepted a position with the Protestant School Board of Greater Montreal, retiring 25 years later as a district superintendant. He returned to university and in 1979 was awarded a PhD in history, his field of study being the American Revolution and the United Empire Loyalists. He took up residence in Kingston, Ont. And turned his attention to writing - four books on history and innumerable articles for magazines and other publications.
A Memorial Service was held in the Chapel of the Gordon F. Tompkins Funeral Home - Township Chapel of Kingston, Ont. on Saturday, January 26th. 2013. Interment of ashes at a later date in Glenhaven Memorial Gardens, Glenburnie.
