HAWKES-LUTES, ELEANOR ELIZABETH (JONAH) - 1920 - 2013 - Eleanor Elizabeth Lutes, 92, of Kenneth E. Spencer Memorial Home and formerly of Hillsborough passed away peacefully on February 1st, 2013 at the home. Eleanor was born in Weldon on April 16, 1920, the daughter of the late Alfred and Frances (Mollins) Jonah. She worked at T. Eaton & Company , at the CN Yard and also was a cook in different establishments over the years. She was a member of the Weldon Baptist Church and a member of W.M.S. Eleanor enjoyed quilting and needlepoint and working in her flower garden but her main passion was cooking. She loved to get together with her family and friends and plan dinner parties. Her family were blessed to have a mom and grammie who loved to cook and also spend time with them. She was also very involved in politics and was active in the Albert P.C. Association. She and MLA, Wayne Steeves could talk for hours. She loved her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her great-great grandchildren, her face lit up whenever they came to visit. She will be remembered for her kind and caring ways and for her great meals, her legacy will live on in the hearts of her family and friends forever. " What we keep in memory is ours forever." She will be deeply missed by her son, Phillip "Phil" Hawkes (Carol) of Curryville; her treasured grandchildren, Debbie and Cindy; cherished great grandchildren, Shannon and Robert and precious great-great grandchildren, JD and William; sister-in-law, Aletha Jonah of Hillsborough and by several nieces and nephews. Eleanor was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husbands, Milford Hawkes and Howard Lutes; son, Gerald Hawkes; grandson, Brent Hawkes; brothers, Boyd Jonah and Harold Jonah.
There will be no visitation. A Celebration of her Life will be held at the Weldon Baptist Church on Tuesday, February 5th, 2013 at 2:00pm with Pastor Blaine Steeves officiating. Interment will be in the Grey's Island Cemetery, Hillsborough at a later date. Following the service the family will be meeting with relatives and friends at the church for further sharing of memories and for refreshments. Donations to the Alzheimer's Society or to the charity of the donor's choice would be greatly appreciated.
