Wayne WOODACRE
WOODACRE, Wayne Michael - 52, Caribou River, Pictou County. Wayne passed away peacefully at home on February 2nd, 2013 in the arms of his soul mate and surrounded by family, following a brief and courageous struggle against an unbeatable foe. Born in Pictou, he was a son of James and Eleanor (Lyons) Woodacre. He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Ruth (Elliott); sons, Michael (Wanda) of Upper Rawdon, and Jeffrey of Halifax; sisters, Diane (Richard) Sherman, Enfield; Gail (Bill) MacDonald, Pictou; Myrna (Scott) Aitken, North Carolina; Brenda Woodacre, Pictou; and brother, Kendall (Ronalda), Medicine Hat, Alberta; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Wayne also had a special chosen third son in Ted Bowron. He was predeceased by brothers, Blaine and Bevan. Wayne was currently working at the Pictou Shipyard and had been employed there intermittently since 1980. He enjoyed telling stories about his early days at the shipyard and the old timers who worked there. Lately he was the old timer who enjoyed telling stories about the young men he now worked with. Wayne was a well-known and well respected athlete. His natural talent allowed him to excel in many sports. He played for the Pictou Junior B Maripacs in the Northumberland Junior Hockey League and thrilled fans in Pictou County and beyond, with arenas filled at times beyond capacity with over 2000 in attendance. His golf swing was the envy of many of his golf partners and he enjoyed a fun, relaxing day on the course. Wayne was also known as a talented baseball player. He played in the West Pictou Men’s Fastball League. In his early years he played for Caribou and most recently played with the Durham Olands team. He was competitive and liked to win, but truly enjoyed the less serious side of the game and the fellowship of his team mates. He will be sadly missed by his many friends, team mates and opponents alike. Wayne was an avid sports fisherman and nothing made him more excited than leaving home early in the morning for a day on the lake. It wasn’t about the number or size of fish caught, but rather about the time spent with family and friends. He was an excellent chef and enjoyed spending time in the kitchen preparing mouthwatering meals. Wayne was a loving husband and proud father, a good friend and a private man. He had a soft spot for young children and was “Uncle Woody” to many of his friend’s sons and daughters. In keeping with Wayne’s wishes, cremation will take place and there will be no visitation. A private family service will be held. Donations in Wayne’s memory may be made to The Pictou Minor Hockey Association, P. O. Box 1905, Pictou, NS, B0K 1H0. The donations will aid in the Fund for Underprivileged Children. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.mclarenfuneral.ca
