It is with extreme sadness that we wish to announce the sudden passing of our loving and devoted mother and grandmother, Elinor Sibley. Formerly from Sydney River, Mom passed away peacefully on Monday, February 4, 2013, at the Northside Community Guest Home, North Sydney.
Mom was born in Boston, USA, and moved to Mira Road at a very young age. She was the only child of the late Elsie Maynard.
Elinor graduated as a Registered Nurse and spent most of her career as a maternity nurse and later on, as a private duty nurse. She was a former member of the Cape Breton Kennel Club, and enjoyed training her Labrador retrievers, receiving many awards. In her earlier years, Elinor loved to travel in her trailer and in later years, she especially enjoyed spending time at her bungalow with her family and friends.
Elinor was predeceased by the love of her life, her husband, Vernon ‘Bud’ Sibley and her only daughter, Diane White.
She leaves to mourn, her two sons, Stan, Sydney and Gerald, Ottawa; two grandsons, Garett, Halifax and Michael, Sydney, whom she loved and cared for deeply.
As mom wished, there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at the United Protestant Church of Sydney River on Thursday 1 p.m., with Rev. Dana Feltmate officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to the MS Society or the Breast Cancer Foundation.
Thank you to all those who cared for mom during her illness and most recently, the staff of the Northside Community Guest Home for the excellent care and sincere thoughtfulness shown to mom during her stay with you.
