DESMOND J.M. HUBBARD
January 11, 1930 - February 1, 2013
As a young boy, Mike grew up in war torn London. He was a keen collector of bomb fragments. He went on to study fine art. He came to Canada in 1957, and worked for three years at Frobisher Bay. Mike married and worked as a commercial artist at the Montreal Star newspaper. In 1964 he moved to British Columbia with his young family where he worked in advertising, first, at the then new Vancouver Times, and then the Columbian in New Westminster. He continued to paint and produced many excellent British Columbia scenes, mainly in watercolor. Mike was an avid reader. He enjoyed photography, sailing, fishing and walking, and was never without a pair of binoculars so he could study avian life. He loved Canada and England and had an adventurous spirit that took him down many of the back roads of B.C. with his V.W. van, canoe and his children. After some years of infirmity, Mike sadly succumbed to pneumonia in the early hours with his daughter, Susan by his side.
He is predeceased by his mother Stella Webber, his father, William Hubbard and his friend Melanie Falcon. Mike is survived by his loving son Tim, daughter Susan Rule (John), granddaughter Sage Hubbard; and English relatives.
Thanks to the caring staff and residents at the Good Samaritan Christensen Village in Gibsons. Service was held Wednesday, February 6, 6:30pm to 7:30pm at Devlin Funeral Home, 579 Seaview Road, Gibsons.
