STEEVES, ELVA ALFREDA - 1911 - 2013 - Elva Alfreda Steeves, 101, of Hillsborough passed away peacefully on February 9th, 2013 at Kenneth E. Spencer Memorial Home with her family by her side. Elva was born in Dawson Settlement on December 7, 1911, the daughter of the late Walter and Alfreda (Wells) Crossman. She was a homemaker and took great pride in raising her family. Elva was a hard worker and always made sure her family received what they needed. She and her husband Gordon had a farm and she loved to provide fresh vegetables and working in the garden. She enjoyed knitting and quilting but her main passion was cooking. She would make bread everyday and brown bread every Saturday. Elva was so blessed to have stayed in her own home up till just a few weeks ago. She was very independent and this meant the world to her, having family and friends look out for her in the past few years. She was an active member of the First Hillsborough Baptist Church and a member of the Silver Chords Choir. Elva's faith was very important to her and she trusted her Lord and Savior. She was a devoted mother and nanny who will live on in the hearts of her family and friends forever. We thank the Lord for all the years he has given Elva to us, she was truly an inspiration and an amazing lady. She will be deeply missed by her daughters, Myrna Stevens of Fredericton and Carol Wilson of Moncton; sons, Glendon Steeves (Fredda) and Pastor Blaine Steeves (Cynthia) both of Hillsborough; her cherished 14 grandchildren and several precious great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She will also be missed by several nieces and nephews and by her friends, neighbors and church family. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her beloved husband, Gordon; son-in-law, Robert Stevens; grandson, Glen Steeves and by three sisters and a brother.
She will be resting at the First Hillsborough Baptist Church with visitation on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm. The funeral service will be held from the First Hillsborough Baptist Church on Wednesday, February 13th, 2013 at 2:00pm with Rev. Tim Johnson and Rev. Dean MacDonald.
