Donald Malcolm MacMillan, Halifax, aged 93, passed away peacefully in the Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Building, QEII, in Halifax, N.S. on Feb. 10, 2013.
Born in Glace Bay on Dec. 16, 1919, he was a son of the late John H. and Katie (MacLean) MacMillan.
A veteran of the Second World War, Don served with the RCCS in Canada, the UK and northern Europe from 1939 to 1945. He maintained contact with his unit as a Life Member of the RCCS Signals Association and through his membership in the Royal Canadian Legion.
He was a Free Mason, a Past Master of his Blue Lodge, a member of the Royal Arch and a 32 degree Scottish Rite Mason.
A businessman all his working life, Don was employed by Peacock Brothers Limited, Foulis Engineering Ltd., and retired in 1985 as Atlantic Provinces Manager with MSA Canada. He was a life member and past president of The Mining Society of Nova Scotia, a life member of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum, a life member of the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering, a life member of the Canadian Professional Sales Association, a member of the Maritime Fire Chiefs Association and a former member of the Technical Section, Canadian Pulp and Paper Association.
Predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Ethel (Billard); his sister, Clara (Neil) (MacLeod) and his brother, Charlie, Don is survived by a son, Scott (Anne); a daughter, Heather; granddaughters, Angela (Aldo) Giordani and Jill MacMillan; great-grandsons, Nicholas, Jeremy, Mitchell and Tyler.
At his request, there will not be a memorial service. A family burial service for Don and Ethel will take place in Sydney at a later date.
