The Sylliboy family is announcing the passing of family matriarch, Muriel Claire Gloade on Jan. 24, 2010, of natural causes.
Muriel was 57 years old and resided on the Millbrook First Nation, Truro, N.S. and died in the comfort of her family home.
Muriel, a craftsperson and renowned traditional food maker, was a member of the Millbrook Sacred Heart Church.
Muriel was born in Sydney, N.S., and originally resided in Eskasoni FN and was predeceased by her parents, John Simon Denny, Eskasoni FN and Rita (Prosper) Denny, Potlotek FN. She was predeceased by brother, Lester Denny, sisters, Eleanor Denny (Bernard), Wilfred, Clara, Muriel and stepmother, Florence (Johnson) Denny and stepbrother, Anthony Sylliboy.
Muriel is survived by siblings, Joseph H. Denny, Robert C. Denny, Gail Stevens, Pamela Doucette, all of Eskasoni First Nation, Beverly MacDonald, Quebec, Bernadette Gloade, Marlene Denny, Shirley Denny, Millbrook; and stepsister, Elizabeth Bernard, Waycobah First Nation. Muriel was the proud mother of 10 children, John (Darrin), Mary (Gabriel), Alfred, Dana, Noreen (Gerald), Frank (Megan), Corrina Milliea (Randy), Leo, Buck (Yvette) and Ross (Tara); stepdaughter, Bernice Johnson, Wagmatcook FN; and the grandmother of 28 grandchildren of which more are expected. She also had 10 godchildren.
Mrs. Gloade was well known for community involvement and taking in kids and youth from all around to provide shelter or a hot meal. Her home was famous for joyous and festive gatherings. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She was predeceased by former husband, Alfred Sylliboy, Eskasoni FN and husband, Daniel Gloade, Millbrook FN.
Muriel will be resting at her family home, 18 Martin Cres., Millbrook FN, beginning at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2010, until time of funeral mass, Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010, at 11 a.m., with Fr. Dariusz Miskowicz officiating at the Millbrook Sacred Heart Church.
