It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and sister, Joyce Marie McInnis, 65 on Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, at the QEII Health Science Centre, VG Site, Halifax.
Born in North Sydney Joyce was the daughter of the late Louis and Marion (Brown) Benac.
She graduated from Cape Breton Business College in 1967 at the top of her class.
She was employed as a secretary and bookkeeper with Marine Railway and later with Wayne Ryan Carpets in North Sydney. She was also a talented seamstress, working from her home.
Joyce was a member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney.
She is survived by her son, Brian McInnis, Saskatchewan; and her daughter, Carol McInnis, Lower Sackville; her three grandchildren, Nathan Swansburg, Caden and Alyssa Power; her two sisters, Dona Benac, North Sydney, Paula Benac (Kevin Maxwell) Barrington, N.S.; and one brother, Robert ‘Bob’ Benac, North Sydney; her aunt, Millie Brown, North Sydney; also a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Francis McInnis and sister, Annette Benac, both in 2003.
Visitation for Joyce will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Friday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday at St. Joseph Church with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating. Burial to take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
