O’BRIEN, ANTHONY JOSEPH “TONY” - With his family by his side after a long and courageous battle with COPD, it is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of Anthony “Tony” O’Brien, 82, of Moncton, on Wednesday February 13, 2013 at the Moncton Hospital. Tony as he was known to his friends was born in Richibuctou-Village and was the son of the late George and Josephine (Doiron) O’Brien. He was a carpenter by trade and also worked with overhead doors most of his life. He loved playing a good game of cards (200 or bridge) and loved going to see his good friend T-Blanc play on Friday nights at the Air Force Vets with his longtime special friend Lea Phinney. Tony is survived by his two daughters: JoAnne Scott (Michael) of Moncton and Carol Forrest (Kevin) of Miramichi; his five sons: Ralph (Julie), Alan (Jeannette), Kevin (Brenda) and Stephen, all of Moncton and Mark of Toronto, ON; his 13 grandchildren: Glen, Kelly, Derek, Jean-Marc, Suzanne, Kristina, Scott, Amy, Katie, Brandi, Jason, Lynn and Joey; 12 great-grandchildren: Marco, Brayden, Allissa, Landon, Payton, Serenity, Brooklyn, Jonah, Andre, Dontay, Ayden and Lana; five sisters: Mai (late Alyre), Beatrice (late Alymer), Jeannette (late George), Dorice (Wayne) and Alice (Ray); four brothers: Edward, Raymond (Theresa), Hubert (Sheila) and George; three sisters-in-law: Helen, Laurida and Renée. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Barbara (nee Chase) in 1973; one daughter: Lorie (late Roger); two sons: Larry and Michael; four sisters: Laura (late Alderic), Alice, Alma and Mary; three brothers: Henry, Tim and Leonard.
The family will receive condolences at Frenette Funeral Centre, 88 Church Street, Moncton (858-1900) Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 1 p.m. until time of departure (1:45). The funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Bernard’s R.C. Church, 43 Botsford Street, Moncton, on Monday, February 18, 2013 at 2 p.m. with Father Allison Carroll officiating. Interment will be in Our Lady of Calvary cemetery, Dieppe.
