It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Frederick Wilcox Dean, on Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013.
Born on Dec. 31, 1916, Fred was the son of the late Alfred and Elizabeth (Wilcox) Dean.
He was a veteran (RCNVR) of the Second World War and was later employed by Sydney Steel in the Metallurgical Department. Fred attended First United Church, where he was a life elder. A kind and gentle man, for many friends who had young children and grandchildren in the 1970s, he will be remembered for bringing Santa Claus into their lives on Christmas Eve.
Surviving are his wife of 74 years, Mildred (Oake); sons, Jack (Eleanor), Calgary, David (Karen), Toronto and Alfred (Janet), Sydney; brother, Robert, Sydney; nine grandchildren and four great- grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, John, Gerald and Edward and sister, Margaret (MacInnis).
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Saturday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the United Protestant Church of Sydney River on Sunday 2 p.m., with Rev. Wade Reppert officiating. Interment in Hardwood Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Sydney VON or Loaves & Fishes.
