It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. ‘Bonnie’ Binder, 68, of Dominion passed away at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital on Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, with her daughter Barbara by her side.
Born in Halifax, Bonnie was the only daughter of the late William and Madeline Crane.
Bonnie’s earlier years were spent growing up on Maple Avenue, Glace Bay then the family moved to Reserve Mines. In 1973 she married the love of her life, Ray Binder and spent many happy years living in Reserve Mines and Lower Sackville. Bonnie was employed at the Beauty Nook, Glace Bay, General Instruments, Sydney, Dalhousie University, Halifax and North Cliff Rec Centre (Halifax Regional Municipality). She was a fun loving person who always put others before her own needs and asked nothing in return. To Bonnie, family was everything. Her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, were second to none. She looked forward to family gatherings. She had a great knack for storytelling (with her own witty version of events). She had a special place in her heart for animals and they reaped the rewards of her love and caring.
Bonnie will be sadly missed by her loving daughter, Barbara (Glenn) Walsh, Reserve Mines; son, Bradley (Amy), South Carolina, stepsons, John and Kevin Binder; cherished grandchildren, Justin, Raylene, Michelle, Megan, Seth, great grandchildren, Kyle, Anthony and Samantha. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Norma (Simon) MacLean, Bea Binder, Monica Binder, Judy Munroe; brother-in-law, Allisdair (Barb) Binder.
Besides her parents, Bonnie was predeceased by her loving husband, Ray Binder.
Visitation for Patricia ‘Bonnie’ Binder will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 18, 2013 in the funeral home chapel with Fr. Daniel Boudreau officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney.
