VERA MITCHELL
Vera Cecily Lilian Mitchell, born October 31, 1921
After a brief illness, Vera passed away at the Union Hospital Sunday, February 10th at the age of 91. Vera was predeceased by her husband Ormond, daughter Judy, father Albert, her mother Winifred and sister Sylvia. She is survived by her son Mark and wife Olga (Winnipeg), her daughter Paula (Moose Jaw), her brother John and his wife Pat (Leigh, England) and her grandsons Scott (Winnipeg) and Bryan (Victoria). Vera was born in London, England in 1921. She met and married Ormond in England in 1942. Her first daughter Judy was born in England. Later, as a war bride Vera came to Ormond's home in Weyburn with her young daughter. In the mid-fifties the family moved to Moose Jaw. For the majority of her life in Canada she lived on South Hill, in the center of the Valley View Community. Besides raising three children, Vera was active in the community. Vera volunteered with the VON, Providence Hospital Ladies Auxiliary and Citizens All. Early on she worked at Valley View and was noted for her welcoming British accent on the switchboard. Vera was probably best-known for her love of antiques (mostly the search for hidden treasures), and for her Saturday morning quests throughout the city's garage sales with her friend Doreen Mowers. Vera often enjoyed the comfort of a good book in her favorite chair and expeditions to the Public Library for another read. In later years Vera found great enjoyment with her friends whose visits were the highlight of her day. We would especially like to thank Rose Mary, Norma and Diana for their loving attention to Vera during the last years. She truly was lucky to have such good people so close and concerned about her well-being. We would also like to thank the staff at Chateau St. Michael's and the Union Hospital for their attention and good care. Cremation has taken place. As per my mother’s desire there will be no public celebration of her life. In lieu of flowers please feel free to donate to Moose Jaw Public Library or a charity of your choice.
