It is with great sorrow and broken hearts that the family of John Mercer announce his sudden and shocking passing on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013.
John was born in Boston in 1966, he was the son of Mary (Hamilton) and the late Walter ‘Bud’ Mercer. He was a loving husband and father.
John worked for many years at SuperValu as a meat cutter and later as a baker. Most recently he worked at Colbourne’s No Frills. John loved to play sports, and to watch old movies, especially documentaries. You would often see him at Eagles games. He loved to watch hockey.
John had a great sense of humour and a perpetual smile.
Left to mourn are his wife, Margaret (Campbell); his son, Jordan; and his daughter, Lauren (John’s self identified identical twin). He also leaves behind his brother and best friend, Leslie (Linda); brother, Sandy (Sally); sisters, Lois King (Paul) and Dorothy Confiant (Dave) and the Campbell family who adopted him; Neila (Gordie), Kathy (Wayne), Mary (Andrew), Joan (Dale), Donna (Johnny), Donald (Leslie), John (Angie), Charlotte, David (Darylene), Anne, Frankie, Geraldine (Rob), and Sandy (Jim); as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides his father, he was predeceased by his mother and father-in-law, Mary (MacLean) and Jake Campbell.
Visitation will be Friday, Feb. 15 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney. Funeral service will take place 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, in the funeral home chapel with a reception to follow.
