The death occurred peacefully and surrounded by her family at the Prince County Hospital, Summerside, P.E.I., on Monday, Jan. 25, 2010, of Mary “Leola” Paynter (nee Gallant) of Summerside, P.E.I., aged 87 years. Leola was born on Oct. 13, 1922, in Saint John, N.B., to her late parents, John and Marie Gallant. Beloved wife of the late George Paynter and loving mother of Austin of Summerside, Norma (Gordon) Campbell of Ottawa, Ont., George (Beverly) of Summerside, John (Katherine) of Fergus, Ont., and Andy (Maxine) of Summerside. Also lovingly remembered by 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Survived by brothers, Edward ( Celina ) Gallant of Abram-Village, and Gary (Karen) Gallant, and sisters, Ella Dietrich and Martina Hinschberger all of Ontario. Besides her husband and parents, Leola was predeceased by son, Clarence, infant son, George Clair, and brothers, Joey and Syl, and infant grandson, George Ryan. Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Rd., Summerside, until Friday, Jan. 29, for a funeral service in the funeral home chapel at 11 a.m. Interment to take place in St. Paul’s Church Cemetery, Summerside, at a later date. Visiting hours on Thursday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial donations in Leola’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Children’s Wish Foundation would be greatly appreciated .
