Stephen MacNeil Petrie, 80, passed away at home on Feb. 17, 2013.
He was the son of the late Patrick and Irene (MacIvar) Petrie, New Waterford.
Stephen was a retired welder and a member of Local 682. He was an avid reader who also enjoyed fishing. Stephen had a great interest and love of children.
Surviving are his wife, Verna (MacMullin) Petrie; daughter, Lynn (Noel) Vaninetti and their children Tyler and Kara, River Ryan; very special niece whom he thought of as a daughter, Wendy (Brian) Cormier, Halifax, and their children Gillian (Sean) Street, Halifax and Andrew Cormier, Toronto; sisters Agnes MacDougall, Sydney, Marguerite O’Connor, Olive MacDonald, Anna Smith, Patsy (Jim) Clancy, all of Halifax, Naomi (Bob) Puhr, Washington, U.S.A.; many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers Alonzo, Harold ‘Boba’ and Billy.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration will be held Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, at 2 p.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. A luncheon will follow at St. Leonard’s Parish hall on Convent Street, New Waterford.
