Austin, David Gaylord - 64, Truro passed away February 19, 2013 surrounded by his family in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, he was the son of Margaret (Middaugh) Austin and the late Gaylord Austin. From the time of birth, David’s life was filled with adventures which carried him from Puerto Rico, across the Continental United States to California and then to Canada where he met Shelley in Wells, B.C. From there the adventures continued east to Chester, N.S. where the family grew to five. It was here that he mastered the art of boat building. Longing to have his hands in the soil, the family migrated to Great Village. Throughout his journey, David inspired many and will live on in the hearts of all of us. Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife of 39 years, Shelley (Schwartz); daughters, Genevieve (Kyle) Hoellrich, San Jose, CA, Miriah (Dave) Kearney, Truro; son, Lucas, Halifax; sisters, Mary (Randy) Davis, Nancy (Gill) Morris, both of South Carolina, Ann (Ron) Padgett, Oregon; brother, John, New Jersey; grandsons, Manny and Jonah; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his father, he was predeceased by brother, Michael. No visitation by request. A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 22 at 3:00 pm in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro with Michelle Rigby officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ALS Society.
