LUTES, MARGARET ROGERS (WEST) - 1919 - 2013 - Margaret Lutes, 93, of Riverside-Albert went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 19th, 2013, she passed away peacefully at the Moncton Hospital with her family by her side. Margaret was born in Hopewell Hill on June 28, 1919 the daughter of the late Clifford and Mary (Archibald) West. Margaret attended elementary school in Hopewell Hill and was a graduate of Riverside Consolidated School then went on to the Provincial Normal School in Fredericton where she received her teaching degree. She taught in many rural schools in Albert County over the years. She was also later employed with the Department of Education Office in Moncton where she worked with the School Board until her retirement. She was an active member of the Riverside-Albert Baptist Church, she taught Sunday School and served as president of the WMS. Margaret was very community minded and she was always willing to help. She served with the Girl Guides of Canada in Albert County for over 20 years, she was President of the Shepody Hospital Auxiliary, was a Dominion Life Member of the UBWM Union, worked with the Home & School, Albert County Historical Society, Women's Institute, served as treasurer for the Albert County United Baptist Association and also was treasurer for the Hopewell Cemetery for 45 years. She was also involved in the RCS Scholarship Fund. Most of all Margaret was a very kind and caring neighbor and friend. Whenever you needed anything she was always there. She will also be remembered for her great sense of humour and for her contagious laugh. They just don't make women like Margaret anymore. Margaret's family tree branches out more than most. She, the foundation, was able to extend her love and share many memories with her children, grand-children and great-grand-children. Never to lose sight of her precious memories, Margaret kept a diary, from her teenage years til present, in which she documented events and feelings from her day-to-day. These diaries, precious reading material to those dearest to her, will ensure that her memories will always live on. She is now at peace and walking the streets of gold, hearing the words, "Well done my good and faithful servant." She will be deeply missed by her daughters, Marilyn Geldart of Lynn, Mass., Betty Duff (Vincent) of Hampton and Helen Bryant (Allison) of Lower Coverdale; son, Russell Lutes (Janice) of Riverview; her precious grandchildren, Deborah, Darlene, Dale, Cindy, Stuart, Peter, Heather, Tim, Tanya, Tasha, Michaela, Tom, Allison and Bethany and by her 23 treasured great grandchildren; brothers, Bill West of Riverview and Jim West (Norma) of Hopewell Hill. She will also be missed by several nieces and nephews; her good friend, Beulah Morrissey; caregivers, Cheryl and Rose; by all her church family, neighbours and friends. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her beloved husband, Omer Lutes; infant son, Douglas ; son, Jim Lutes; daughter-in-law, Diana Lutes; son-in-law, Everett Geldart; grandson, Dennis Geldart; sister-in-law, Peggy West and her special niece, Beth Sparks.
She will be resting at the Albert County Funeral Home with visitation on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm. The funeral service will be held at the Riverside-Albert Baptist Church on Saturday, February 23rd, 2013 at 2:00pm with Rev. Donald Oldford officiating and Rev. Jack Allen assisting. Interment will be held in the Hopewell Cemetery, Hopewell Hill in the spring. Donations to the RCS Scholarship Fund, Hopewell Cemetery or to the charity of the donor's choice would be greatly appreciated.
