CHISHOLM, Gertrude Louise “Gertie†– 91, Parkland Estates Retirement Residence, formerly of Burnyeat Street, passed away peacefully, with her loving family and friends at her side, on Wednesday, January 27, 2010, in Colchester Regional Hospital. Born February 22, 1918, in Truro, she was a daughter of the late William and Sarah (MacDonald) Chisholm. Gertie was a member of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church. She worked at Eatons as a manger for many years and loved to dance. Many will remember Gertie sitting on her verandah, watching the cars go by and chatting with anyone who passed by. Gertie is survived by her nieces, Mary Dugas, Alder Point; Frances Bonnar, Little Pond; Anna MacDougall, Sydney Mines; nephews, Arthur “Art†Chisholm, Mississauga, Ontario; Tommy (Margie) Chisholm, Florence; David (Cassie) Chisholm, Little Pond; her beloved “best girlfriendâ€, Elsie Hastings, Hamilton, Ontario; next door neighbours and dear friends, Paul and Liz Smith and their girls, Emily and Molly. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Margaret and Anna; brother, John. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, where Gertie’s family will receive friends from 7-9 pm Friday, January 29, 2010. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 am Saturday, January 30, 2010, in Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 669 Prince Street, Truro, Father Dariusz Miskowicz officiating. Spring interment in Robie Street Cemetery. If so desired, donations in Gertie’s memory to Canadian Cancer Society are welcomed.
