Marie Basilice “Bessie” (Richard) Cyr - 90
Bessie left this world peacefully surrounded by love and in the presence of her family, on Saturday, February 23, 2013 in the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born February 21, 1923 in Memramcook, NB, she was the only daughter of the late Anastase Joseph and Minnie (Sonier) Richard.
During her younger years, her life was totally dedicated to her growing family of 10 children. A devoted wife and mother, she made home a loving and peaceful one where friends, family and strangers were always welcomed. She thoroughly enjoyed having her family around her, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren and the numerous events like birthdays, anniversaries and milestones in their lives were celebrated. A life long parishioner of Stella Maris Parish, she was a member of the CWL for 48 years. Strong in her faith with a deep devotion to St. Anne; daily mass, devotions and prayers were an integral part of her life. After raising her family, she was employed for nine years at the Maritime Oddfellows Nursing Home. She enjoyed quilting, knitting, and travelling, especially her eight pilgrimages to St. Anne-de-Beaupré, Quebec with the church group. Her loving family are deeply saddened at the loss of a wonderful wife, beautiful, caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and a dear friend. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and will be remembered for her wisdom, compassion, and her devotion to Arnold, the love of her life.
She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Arnold; her six sons, Donnie (Lucy) and Richard (Valerie), Pictou; Ray (Linda), Victor, Ivan, Ontario; and Jerry (Linda), Winnipeg; her four daughters, Doris Scanlan (Paddy), Pictou; Mary Boulter (John), Coldbrook; Eileen Lee (Richard), Ontario; Joan Williams (Bruce MacLean), Dartmouth and her brother, Leo (Hermance), Mass.; as well as 22 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren and a large extended family.
She was predeceased by her seven brothers: Albert, Joey, Cliff, Val, Ozzie, Freddie, and Leo in infancy; granddaughter, Lori Boulter.
Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral Mass will take place 11 a.m. Thursday from Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, Pictou, with Rev. Gerald Campbell officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
