It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of Evelyn Gardiner on Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2010, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late Duncan and Katie Ann (MacNeil) Hill. Evelyn enjoyed sewing, playing cards and singing. She loved all animals. She was an easygoing, gentle woman who will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Evelyn is survived by her companion and friend, Bud Thomas; her children, Cathy Fraser, Johnny Fraser and Al Gardiner, all of Hamilton, Ont., her sister, Shirley (Michael) O’Dea, brothers, Donnie (Florence) Hill, Derrick (Darlene) Hill, David (Faye) Hill, Nick Hill (Tish), all of Sydney, George (Rosemary) Hill, Toronto, Ont. She is also survived by her five grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Evelyn was predeceased by her sister, Rose MacLean, brothers, Duncan and John. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 1, 2010, at the S.W.
