LOIS ELAINE WIGHTMAN
October 2, 1936 ~ February 23, 2013
Lois passed away peacefully at her home in Sechelt, B.C. on February 23, 2013 after a brief battle with cancer. She was lovingly cared for by her friends and family during her final journey. Her remains will be interred in Morrinsville, New Zealand with her parents. A much-loved sister and sister-in-law to Pat and Peter, Allan and Glynis, Margaret and David, and Ian and Marilyn; and cherished Aunty to her many nieces and nephews.
Lois was a teacher and school counsellor in the Coquitlam School District for many years. She was a great friend, good listener and world traveller. She will be remembered by many friends for her sense of fun and her advice and wisdom. She was an accomplished golfer and bridge player and enjoyed cryptic crossword puzzles, opera and Friday night drinks with friends.
Lois attracted people everywhere she went and had accumulated many friends all over the world who will miss her camaraderie. She travelled extensively but Canada was her home of choice, although she regularly returned to family and friends in New Zealand, her place of birth. She had visited New Zealand twice in the past six months, returning from a family reunion there just days before she became ill.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Hourigan, Dr. Wadge and Dr. Goddard and the palliative care nurses for their kind care during her illness.
There will be no funeral service by request. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Sunshine Coast Golf and Country Club, 3206 Sunshine Coast Highway, Roberts Creek, B.C. on Thursday, April 11, 2013 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Everyone who knew Lois is welcome to attend.
