SANIPASS, JOSEPH D. - 1920 - 2013 - Joseph D. Sanipass, 92, of the Bouctouche Reserve, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family at the Stella Maris de Kent Hospital, Sainte-Anne de Kent, on Tuesday March 5th, 2013. He was married to the late Agnes (Lafford) Sanipass (1996). Born in Grande-Digue, he was the son of the late Peter and the late Justine (Hebert) Sanipass. Joseph will be remembered for his craftsmanship. He was also a member of the Bouctouche Band and fought to have it recognize by the federal government as a reserve, a former member of the union of the NB Indian, and a recognized Elder in the Mi’Kmaq Community. He will be sadly missed by his three children; Mary Agnes Geldart (Johnny) of Moncton, William J. Sanipass and Gilbert J. Sanipass (Genevieve) both of the Bouctouche Reserve, and Cyril Polchies of Elsipogtog who is raised until he was in his teens. He also leaves to mourn his fifteen grandchildren, thirty five great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren, and several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by two daughters; Marguerite Rose and Florence, four sisters; Lucille, Alice, Celina, Rose and six brothers; Leo, David, Henry, John, Wilfred and Bill.
Visitations will be held at Joseph’s residence, 19 Reserve Rd., Bouctouche Reserve from Thursday, March 7th, 2013 from 1:00 pm until 11:30 am Saturday, March 9th, 2013. Funeral Mass will be held at the Saint-Jean Baptiste Roman Catholic Church, Bouctouche on Saturday March 9th, 2013 at 12 noon. Interment will be in the TJIPOGTOTJC First Nation Cemetery at the Bouctouche Reserve. Funeral arrangements are in the professional care of Maillet Funeral Home, Bouctouche. www.mailletfuneralhome.ca
