John Healey

It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear husband and father, John Healey, on Thursday, March 7, 2013, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in North Sydney, he was the son of the late Lionel and Lillian (Brewer) Healey.
John spent his working career with the N.S. Department of Community Services, first in Halifax, and later in Sydney Mines, North Sydney, retiring from the Sydney office.
John was an all-around sports fan, especially the New York Yankees and to John’s delight, causing great rivalries with family and friends.
John was a community-minded person, being a very active member of the Kinsmen Club of North Sydney, of which he held many offices.
He also enjoyed playing cards and cribbage with friends at Branch #19 Royal Canadian Legion in North Sydney.
He was a loving and devoted husband to his wife, Donna (Palmer) Healey and dad, to his only son, Russ (Kim) of Sydney Mines.
Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Saturday, in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service for John will be held 2 p.m. Sunday from the funeral home chapel with Marjorie Serafinus, officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Harvest House, St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, Sydney Mines, or St. John Anglican Church, North Sydney.
