MARTIN STUART STARRITT
STARRITT, Martin Stuart, passed away suddenly at his home in Bass River, Colchester County, on March 7, 2013 at the age of 67. He was the son of the late Daniel Henry and Pauline Rosemond (Ogden) Starritt. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his sister Sylvia Almas. He is survived by his beloved wife Barbara; sons Kevin of Bass River and Stuart (Ginelle) of Timberlea with their children Carter (his understudy) and Calista; step son Michael Stokes of Economy; step daughter Shawna Mont (Kenny) of North River and their children Corey and Tammy; brother Cameron (Judy), Beaver Bank; sister, Lynn (Gary) Selkirk, Truro; as well as many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
Martin was a life long resident of Bass River. In his early working years he worked with Rockingham Hardware and Michelin Tires, but was happiest when he had the opportunity to work in Bass River with the Dominion Chair Company and several years with David Fulton’s Bass River Farms where he had the opportunity to travel extensively throughout eastern Canada and the Eastern United States. In addition he was the care taker of the Bass River United Church Cemetery for over 35 years. He was an active member of the Bass River Fire Department since its inception. Throughout his life he never said no to any one who needed a helping hand and had a smile and a laugh for everyone.
Visitation will be held 2-4 on Sunday, March 10th at Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, March 11th in Riverside United Church in Bass River with Rev. Florence Antle-Brison officiating. A reception will follow at the Bass River Fire Hall. Interment will be in the Bass River United Church Cemetery at a later date.
