Don Kolonel

Passed peacefully away in the presence of his loving family. Predeceased by the loving wife and mother of his children, Elizabeth Kolonel (Kent) and son Mark. Leaving to celebrate his life, loving daughters: Val, Lynne (Keith), Elaine (Ken), Jill, Lori (Chris) and loving sons: Glenn (Bernadette), and (Fr.)Jeff; grandchildren: Matthew, Molly, Shane, Elliot, and Ryan. Also his faithful and loving companion Vera Doherty and her family. Also leaving to celebrate him, is a large circle of other relatives and friends. Don will always be remembered for his willingness to give and for his involvement and commitment in community organizations. Always a devoted father – his family came first – but he also found the time for other people and their needs! Never missed a good “scrap game” with the boys at the rink. He was businessman, a leader in his community, coached track & field and hockey, was an avid gardener and well known for his “sociable” manner. He will always be remembered with the fondest memories by his loving family, and never forgotten by the people whose lives he touched. Many thanks to the staff, Doctors and Nurses of the Health Sciences Centre - special thanks to Dr. Joshi and accompanying nurses, who were present, and brought kindness and compassion in the final moments of Don's life. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road with visitation on Saturday, March 9 from 7-9 p.m. and on Sunday, March 10 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will take place from Holy Rosary Parish, Portugal Cove, on Monday March 11, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Flowers gratefully accepted, or donations may be made in his memory to Holy Rosary Parish, Portugal Cove.
