It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the passing of our beloved father Nicholas. He ended his journey at home surrounded by his loving family.
Nicholas was born in New Harbour, N.L., son of late George and Elizabeth Symes.
Nicholas was an active member of St. Andrew’s Church. He was a fisherman by trade. He loved life and welcomed everyone into his home.
Nicholas is survived by one son, Andrew (Linda); eight daughters, Louella (Walter) Ford, Sydney Mines, Olive (Simon) Fournier, Ontario, Phyllis Symes, Sydney, Patricia (Mike) Macleod, Ontario, Nelda (Clarence) Royal, Glace Bay, Delia (Clements) Hardy, Linda (Dale) Smith, New Haven, Nicole (Richard) Wall, Nicole was his special guardian. Also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two brothers, Art (Liz) and Stanley (Miriam), Newfoundland. Nicholas will be sadly missed by his grandchild Abby and by all who knew him for his kind and generous spirit.
Nicholas was predeceased by his loving wife Betty of 60 years, sons, Reginald, in infancy and Roy, brother, Reginald, special grandson, Nicholas and sister, Phyllis Prosser, Newfoundland.
Visitation for Nicholas will be held Wednesday from 11 a.m. at All Souls Chapel. We will celebrate the life of Nicholas and lay to rest our father our friend with Rev. Warren Huestis officiating at St. Andrew’s Church, Neil’s Harbour, 2 p.m. Wednesday. Burial in the parish cemetery.
