Williams, Cecil Ray,88, the third son from a family of thirteen children, who was born to the late Walter & Henrietta (Carde) Williams on January 14, 1925 in Bass River, Colchester County. Cecil passed away in the Hants Community Hospital on Monday, March 11, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was a very hard worker and a veteran of WW2. At the age of 18 he joined the army and after his basic training he was transferred overseas serving in England, Belgium, Germany & Holland. When the war ended he stayed at Holland for the liberation, returning home in June 1946. After he returned home he met and married Henrietta “Etta” (Ryan) and they just celebrated their 65th anniversary together in December. They married in Bass River and moved to Windsor shortly after and he worked at carpentry for a short time and then he went to the Fundy Gypsum Company, where he worked until retirement in 1988 as a heavy equipment operator. He loved his work. He was a member of Quarryworkers Union and Hants County Royal Canadian Legion Branch. 009 and was an adherent of the United Baptist Church in Windsor. He enjoyed bowling on Wednesday mornings with his friends. Together they had seven children, daughters, Judy (Dwight) Riley, Tonge Hill; Frances (Angus Riley), Three Mile Plains; Annie (Steve) Harvey, Brooklyn; Janet Williams, Ottawa; sons, Joseph Williams, Tonge Hill and Peter (Janet) Newport Station; also surviving are special grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who loved him dearly. Also surviving are brothers, Paul (Betty), Bass River; Stanley (Ollie) , Amherst; Alfred (Jean), Dalhousie, New Brunswick; Jimmie, Ontario; sisters, Pauline (John) May, Truro; Patricia Cottenden, of Amherst and Elizabeth McInnis, New Minas; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, Walter and Henrietta Williams; son, Lawrence (1975); grandson, Gregory Riley; brothers, Roy (Audrey), Robert (Elta); David (Nellie) and John Williams; sister, Ruth (Rollie) Ettinger. Cecil’s family wishes to thank everyone who were so special and helpful especially Dr. Jim Leahy who is more than our doctor but a very special friend who gave us extra special support throughout this very difficult time. Visitation was held 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2013 in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor where Hants County Branch 009 Royal Canadian Legion held their service at 7 p.m. Funeral service was 2 p.m. Thursday, March 14,2013 in Lindsay’s Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Jeff White and Rev. John Bartol officiating. Interment was in the Ste. Croix Cemetery, St.Croix. Donations in memory were requested to be made to the Palliative Care Unit of the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor or the Windsor United Baptist Church.
