Verona MacNaughton
MacNAUGHTON, VERONA EDITH (DOUGLASS) - Verona MacNaughton, of Fredericton, NB, departed this life at Thomas Hall on March 15, 2013, after a short illness. Born in Marysville, NB, on July 14, 1934, she was the sixth child of John and Nettie Douglass. Her early years were spent in Red Rock and Taymouth, NB. She trained as a nursing assistant in Inverness, NS, and worked at the Victoria Public Hospital, Stanley Memorial Hospital, and Nashwaak Villa. In 1958, she married Earle MacNaughton, with whom she shared a married life of fifty years. Ending her nursing career in the 1980s, she worked as District Office Administrator for the Fredericton District of Scouts Canada and spent several summers as a costumed interpreter at King’s Landing. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels and for Scouts Canada, including serving on Fredericton District Council. She was a member of the Ladies Aid of St. Peter’s Presbyterian Church, Stanley, NB. Verona was predeceased by her parents and husband, an older brother, John Douglass, and a younger sister, Jean Marie (Douglass) Bubar. She is survived by her son Robert and daughter-in-law Colleen (Rock) MacNaughton of Calgary; grandchildren Georgina and Hugh MacNaughton, also of Calgary; her siblings, Louis Douglass (Florence), Eliona Young, Guy Douglass (Ethel), Elizabeth Smith (John), Stuart Douglass (June), Donnalene Flemming (Brad), and Diane Seely (George); sister-in-law Shirley Douglass; many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; and her “adopted” relations among the Galloway clan, notably Mildred and Martha.
Visitation will be at McAdam’s Funeral Home (160 York Street, Fredericton) on Sunday, March 17, 2013 from 2 to 4pm and 7 to 9 pm. A funeral service will be held at St. Peter's Presbyterian Church (21 English Settlement Road, Stanley, NB) at 2pm on Monday, March 18, 2013. The Reverend Kim Barlow will conduct the service, which will be followed by a reception in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or St. Peter’s Presbyterian Church Cemetery Fund.
