John Kirby

KIRBY, JOHN M. - John M. Kirby, 97, of Monarch Hall, Riverview and formerly of Glencairn Dr., Moncton, passed away peacefully at his residence on Friday, March 15, 2013. Born in Chatham, New Brunswick, he was the son of the late Dennis and Elizabeth (Hammond) Kirby. John was a Veteran of the Second World War and was a retired Chief Mechanical Officer with the C.N.R. whose real passion was being in the great outdoors. His life was filled with family camping trips, hours spent fishing at the wharf, cross-country skiing at Kouchibouguac, gardening and bird watching. John will be sadly missed by his wife of 67 years, Irene (Bourgeois); daughters, Elizabeth Whiting (Douglas) of Moncton and Kathleen Kirby of Salisbury; grandchildren, Christopher, Jennifer and Matthew. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Dennis and two sisters, Zita Clavette and Sr. Mary Pieta. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the nursing staff at the Monarch Hall. Your care and compassion, especially in John’s final days, and in supporting his spouse Irene, also a resident of the Monarch Hall, through this difficult time will never be forgotten.
Resting at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995), and in keeping with John’s wishes, there will be no visitation hours or funeral service. Interment will be at the Shediac Road Cemetery at a later date. In John’s memory, donations to the Trans Canada Trail would be appreciated by the family.
