Mary Zapotochny of Prince Albert passed away peacefully with her family by her, on Thursday, February 4, 2010 at the age of 87 years. She is loved and will be missed by her daughters Jayne (Henry) Siwak and Margaret (Louis) Normand of Edmonton. She is also remembered by her seven granddaughters and nine great-grandchildren Holly (Robert) Watson and family of Edmonton, Karla (Alex) Dolaptchiev and family of Calgary, Shannon (Michael) LeBlanc and family of Prince Albert, Lesley (Korwin) Rempel and family of Edmonton, Chantal Normand of Edmonton, Kirstin Normand of Calgary and Michelle Normand of Edmonton. Mary was born on May 16th, 1922 to Stefania and Walenty Wojceichowski in Zelesia, Poland. She came to Canada with her mother and brothers, Joe and Stanley in 1930 to reunite with her father who came a year earlier (1929). They settled on a homestead in the Foxford district. A sister, Regina, was born in 1931 and died when only a week old. Another sister, Helen, was born in 1932. On February 4th, 1940 she married Marion Zapotochny. They spent 40 years on the farm, and then retired to Prince Albert. Mom was an avid gardener with a love for flowers. Her hobbies were crocheting, knitting, making patchwork quilts and afghans. Mary is survived by her sisters-in-law Pauline Wojciechowski of Weirdale, Olga Wojciechowski of Kelowna, BC and Anne Zapotochny of Prince Albert and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Dad, (Marion) passed away April 25th, 1987 after 47 years of marriage. She was predeceased by her infant daughter Rose at birth; her parents; her brothers Joe and Stanley; her sister Helen (Pete) Yanush, Mike and Anne Zapotochny, Marion and Josephine Curniski, Mary and Tony Babinski. The family would like to thank the staff of Mont St. Joseph Home and Level 5 nursing staff at Victoria Hospital for their exceptional care and sensitivity. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 6 from Our Lady of Czestochowa, Polish Parish – 160 – 12th Street East, Prince Albert, by Father Janusz Bizewski. Interment will be held at South Hill Cemetery. It is the family’s request the in lieu of flowers donations be made to Mont St. Joseph Foundation – 777-28th Street East, Prince Albert, SK, S6V 8C2.
