DIANE FISHER (VAZQUES-AMARAL)
July 23, 1945 ~ March 7, 2013
Diane died in hospice at Shorncliffe after more than a year’s struggle with cancer.
She was born in Columbus, Pennsylvania, the eldest of five children. Diane is survived by life partner Shey Smith, her parents Bob and Gladys Fisher, sister Christine, brothers John and Jim, and mother-in-law Betty McAlpine. She was predeceased by her brother, Bob Jr.
Shey and Diane together were Smith and Fisher Pottery. Diane loved colours and used them boldly in her pottery, her garden and her clothing. She was an exceptional talent and a wonderful woman. No one will forget her generous spirit or the beaming smile she gifted to friends and customers alike. She was a politically aware lesbian feminist who cared a great deal about environmental and social causes and lived her life accordingly.
Diane left this world on a wave of love, given so generously by Shey and Betty and by Diane’s family; also by Vicki Trerise, Marcia Hawes, the communities of Sappho’s Circle and the Sechelt Farmer’s Market, and her circle of US friends.
Shey would like to acknowledge the loving care Diane received from Dr. Bella Hughan, the Home Care Palliative Care Team, especially Petrina Wing and Bernadette Richards, and the hospice staff at Shorncliffe.
There will be a celebration of Diane’s life at 4860 Bluegrouse Drive, Davis Bay on Sunday, April 7, at 2:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, consider sending a donation in Diane’s name to the Grandmothers Campaign, an initiative of the Stephen Lewis Foundation: www.grandmotherscampaign.org
