Roberta Mary “Bubsy” MacBride - 80, of Canning, NS. It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother at the Valley Regional Hospital on Wednesday, March 20, 2013. Born in Parrsboro, NS on October 17, 1932, she was the youngest daughter of the late Robert George and Mary (Hanson) George. Bubsy worked as a telephone operator in Canning and later enjoyed seasonal employment along with many other women in the area while she raised her young family. Later, she was employed as store clerk and seamstress at Vail’s Dry Cleaners in Wolfville. She was a member of the Canning Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and was one of the original members of the Canning Ladies Ringette Team. Our Mom was devoted to her family and blessed us with her many talents such as cooking, sewing, music and gardening. She spent many hours in the kitchen cooking up delicious meals for her family or worked well into the wee hours of the morning sewing beautiful clothes including the occasional wedding dress for family or friends. She was blessed with the ability to play piano by ear and could be heard yodeling on occasion which brought the sound of music to the home. She enjoyed sharing her memories of playing the piano for community dances held at the old Delhaven School or days spent sailing to and from Parrsboro on the tides of the Bay of Fundy with her father, whom she adored. She will be sadly missed by husband, Wesley MacBride, Canning; sons, Dana, (Kim) MacBride, Grafton; Jamie (Kim) MacBride, Richmond Hill, ON; daughters, Fay (Ken) Tibbetts, Plamondon, AB; Janet (Jean-Marc) Devidal, Coldbrook; Penny MacBride, Canning; grandchildren, Kelsey, Morgan, Matthew, Aaron, Maria, Michelle, Francine, and Emily; great-grandchildren, Nolen Kenneth, Nolen Thomas, Wesley, Brooklyn, Owen and Carlos; sisters, Dorothy Dodwell and Colleen McNeil; brothers, Robert George and Darrell George. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her elder brother, John George and infant sister, Caroline George. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the Valley Regional Hospital for their care and support towards their mother and family during this difficult time. Cremation has taken place. Visitation was held from 7-9 p.m. Friday, March 22, 2013 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 23, 2013, Father Gerald Saulnier officiating. A private family interment took place in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Kentville. Family flowers only, by request. Donations in memory may be made to the Valley Hospice Foundation or the Alzheimer Society. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
