Helen Scott ‘Pat’ (Ovenstone) Waters, 100, Roseway Manor, Sandy Point, formerly of North Sydney, passed away in the Manor on March 23, 2013.
Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, the hour the Titanic went down, daughter of James and Tomasina (Joffrey) Ovenstone. Helen immigrated to Montreal at the age of 18 with her brother Garth and sister Zena. She met and married Gordon Waters there in 1935. Gordon had been stationed at North Sydney for part of the war. After a trip back to Scotland she returned with a boat load of war brides and they moved to North Sydney.
Pat loved card games, cooking, sewing and entertaining friends and family. In 2003 she moved to Jordan Ferry to be with her son, John, remaining there until June 2012, then enjoying the good care she received at Roseway Manor, Shelburne. She was the last surviving member of her family.
She is survived by son, John (Ruth), Jordan Ferry; granddaughter, Jessica, Regina; grandson, Jamie, Toronto; nieces Margaret Laing and Gail Welsh, Edinburgh, Scotland, as well as longtime friend, who she regarded as a son, Joseph Matheson, Glace Bay.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Shelburne. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
