It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, Shirley MacNeil.
Shirley peacefully passed away at the Glace Bay Hospital on Monday, March 25, 2013, with her loving family by her side.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Catherine ‘M.C.’ (Steele) Pace, and was a member of St. Anne’s Church, Glace Bay.
Shirley was a devoted Catholic, whose faith kept her going until God called her home. She was a kind and caring person who enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchild, she was truly dedicated to raising her family.
Shirley enjoyed bowling and for many years, she was a member of both the bush league and the commercial league. In earlier years she was employed with Rosenblum’s, Toby & Ein’s, and more recently a retiree of Shoppers Drug Mart, where she truly loved the staff and all of her co-workers. Shirley touched the lives of everyone who had the pleasure of meeting her.
She will be sadly missed by her loving husband, Sheldon, daughter, ‘Ma’s very special caregiver’, Tracy Lynn (Scott), Glace Bay; son, Sheldon (Carla), Sydney; brothers, Emilio (Lorna) and Gary, both of Glace Bay; sister, best friend and caregiver, Lorraine (Bill) Jacques, Mira Gut. Also surviving are cherished grandchildren, Kodi, Kendra, Mitchell, Sara, great-grandchild, Kylie whom she devoted her life to; and numerous nieces and nephews She will also be missed by her childhood friend, Mary McLean, dear friend, Edna Nearing and neighbour, Evelyn Shears.
Besides her parents Shirley was predeceased by her sister-in-law, Marlene Pace.
In honoring Shirley’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at St. Anne’s Church, Glace Bay with Fr. Leo Boone officiating. A luncheon will follow in the church foyer. Interment will take place in the parish cemetery.
Donations in Shirley’s memory may be made to the VON, Palliative Care and Cape Breton Cancer Center.
