BATEMAN, MARY MAY (DOWNING) - 1921 - 2013 - The death of Mary May (Downing) Bateman, 91, of Port Elgin, occurred at the Westford Nursing Home on Wednesday, March 27, 2013. Born in Shemogue, Mary was a daughter of the late Arthur and Eugenie (Jacob) Downing. Mary will be sadly missed by her two sons, Arthur "Doug" and Wayne, both of Port Elgin; three daughters, Janet (Roger) LeBlanc, Judy Bateman, and Sandra (Joe) Lucci, all of Baie Verte; fourteen grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. Besides her parents, Mary was predeceased by her husband John in 1964; a daughter, Barbara Leger; a grandson, Tony; four brothers, Leo, Tannis, Andrew and Adolphe and four sisters, Susan, Dora, Lucy, and Rita.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care and supervision of Jones Funeral Chapel, 3 West Main Street, Port Elgin (538-2241) from where visitation will be held 7 to 9 pm on Thursday, March 28, 2013 with a funeral service to follow on Friday at 11 am. Interment will be at the Fernwood Cemetery in the spring. Celebrant Pam Harrison officiating.
