John 'Junior' MacDonald

John 'Junior' MacDonald, age 67 of Neville Street, Dominion, passed away Tuesday, March 26th, 2013 at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Angus and Mary (Munroe) MacDonald.
Junior was a faithful and devoted member of Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport. He was a member of their Men's Club and their Pastoral Committee. Junior was a coal miner for 40 years, retiring from Phalen Mine. He also served as a shift manager in the mines and was a draggarman with the mine rescue. Junior was a member of the Dominion Fire Department for 35 years and was a former fire chief. But mostly, he will be remembered as a very dedicated worker and a loving husband, father and grandfather who was strong willed and very compassionate. Junior also was blessed with a great sense of humour.
Junior is survived by his two daughters, Tara (Jonathan) McPherson, New Waterford, Danielle MacDonald (Jeff), at home; two sons, Shannon (Lesley), Glace Bay, Angus (Ashley), at home; one brother, Angus (Judy), Dominion and five grandchildren.
Junior was predeceased by his wife, Betty (MacNeil) MacDonald on January 23rd, 2013 and his son, Leonard, twenty-two years ago.
Visitation will take place on Monday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass, officiated by Rev. Danny Boudreau is Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church followed by a reception in the Dominion Fire Hall. Cremation to follow after the funeral mass with interment at a later date in Calvary Cemetery.
As an expression of sympathy for Junior, memorial donations in his memory may be made to a charity of one's choice or Immaculate Conception Church.
