Oran Bamford Broughton

BROUGHTON, Oran Bamford – 96, Truro, formerly of Westchester, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at Cedarstone Enhanced Care, Truro. Born April 14, 1916, in Westchester, he was a son of the late Albert and Bessie (Tattrie) Broughton. In his early years, he lived in Malagash and worked at the Salt Mine and then in Pugwash where he was employed with Windsor Salt Mine. He and his family later moved to Westchester where he farmed, logged, trucked and was later foreman for Department Of Highways and grade foreman for Tryners Construction in Halifax/Dartmouth. He was a member of Westchester Fire Department and he also loved to hunt, fish, read, play cards, darts, bowling and dancing with his wife of 75 years, Emma. Oran was the last surviving member of his immediate family and is survived by his wife, Emma (Wilson) Broughton; daughters, Bessie (Lawson) Thomson, Westchester; Avis (Wesley) Austin, Sutherlands Lake; sons, Hubert (Annie), Truro; Philip (Cheryl), Westchester; nephew, Brian (Karen) Broughton, Moncton; several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Hubert, Thomas, Herald, William “Bill”, Kester in infancy; sister, Vera (Dixon); nephew, Kenneth Broughton. Many thanks to all the staff at Cedarstone Enhanced Care for their devoted care. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. Private family interment will be held in Eagle Hill Cemetery, Westchester, in May 2013.
