It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle and friend. Gary ‘Doc’ Strong age 65 of Glace Bay passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born in Glace Bay Doc was the son of the late Lewellyn and Evelyn (Chaisson) Strong.
Doc was a hardworking coal miner for 33 years. He loved his family very much. Doc enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially fly fishing in the Margaree where he was featured in many magazines. In his younger years, Doc owned a lobster boat. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Doc will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 45 years, Valerie (Roberts); daughters, Michelle (J.B.), Cathy (Greg), Dawn (Darren), Cindy (Danny); sons, Robbie, Ronnie (Colleen) Michael, Gary; brothers, Bruce (Helen), Lewellyn (Carol); cherished grandchildren, Ryan, Nathan, Samantha, Bailey, Brandon, Brett. Sarah, Markus, Harley, Brayden and Jacob. Also Doc will be missed by numerous sisters and brothers-in-law.
Besides his parents, Doc was predeceased by a brother, Gordon & Sissy Strong and a grandchild in infancy.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at the Glace Bay Hospital, ICU , especially Dr. MacLachlan, Dr. Kevin McNeil and Dr. Cadegan who went above and beyond his call of duty in support of our family.
Visitation for Doc will be held 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. on Monday, April 1, 2013 in V.J. McGillivray Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at St. Anne's Church with Fr. Leo Boone officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney.
