BOWLAND, SHERWOOD "SAM" - The death of Sherwood “Sam” Bowland, age 98, of Hampton, NB, husband of the late Evelyn (Wishart) Bowland, occurred at Ridgewood Veterans Wing, Saint John, NB on Friday, March 29, 2013. He was born in Rhode Island, NY, the son of the late Wilbert and Adelia (Sherwood) Bowland. He is survived by two daughters, Linda Anderson (Henry) of Brantford, ON, Judy MacFarland (Paul) of Clifton Royal; two sons, Donald Bowland (Elsie) of Hampton, Tom Bowland (Kathy) of Kingston; 13 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, one sister, Winnie Bannister, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one sister, Anne Bowland; and two brothers, Wendell and George Bowland. Sam was a member of The Corinthian Lodge #13, F. & A.M., and he served in WWII with the VIII Hussars, Fifth Armoured Division. He was an engineer with CNR for over twenty five years before retirement.
He is resting at Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB, with visiting on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. Funeral service, conducted by Rev. Peter Gillies, will be held from Reid’s Funeral Home at 11:00 AM, on Tuesday April 2, 2013. Interment will be in All Saints Cemetery, Clifton Royal at a later date.
