Passed peacefully away at St. Patrick’s Mercy Home on Saturday, March 30, 2013 Lavinia Rees (nee Pottle) aged 89 years. Lavinia was a bookkeeper for all her working years, the majority of which was at Johnson’s Insurance. Predeceased by her daughter; Glenys Whelan (nee Rees); and four sisters: Nina Smith, Florrie Mills, Allison Pottle and Kathleen Rees; one brother Lester Pottle. Leaving to mourn her granddaughter Kerry Howie (nee Whelan), Halifax, Nova Scotia and her husband Jeffery and two great-grandchildren: Sarah and Ryan who were all the light of her life; her son-in-law Edward Whelan, St. John’s, who visited her all the time and his wife Charlotte Ryan who always made sure she had what she needed; two brothers: Reuben, St.John’s and Oliver, Salem, New Hampshire; one sister, Anne Watson, Toronto; also a large circle of other relatives and friends. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, with visitation on Tuesday, April 2 from 2 - 4 p.m. and
7 - 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held from The Carnell Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the nursing staff at St. Patrick’s Mercy Home and especially to Lavinia’s roommate, Mrs. Grace Mitchell and her wonderful daughters: who were as good to her as they were to their own mother; their caring and compassion will always be remembered.
