It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Glynath MacDonald on Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Burgeo, Newfoundland, she was the daughter of the late Wilson and Blanche (Bowdridge) Billard.
Generous by nature, strong in spirit and devoted to her family. She had a wonderful sense of humor, born storyteller, and enjoyed a good joke. She was a loyal Newfoundlander. Gwen loved music especially Irish, Newfoundland and church hymns and she enjoyed singing. She was an excellent cook and baker, she shared this talent with her family and friends. She was skilled in sewing, knitting, crocheting, quilting and all the family have benefited from her talents.
Gwen was a member of Christ the King Anglican Church, where she served as a member of the Altar Guild and Christ Church Ladies Guild. She was a former member of the Ashby Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Gwen was a person whose faith meant much to her.
Gwen is survived by her loving children, Rev. Reg (Sandy), Victor (Christena), Bryan (Diane); sister, Dora Hatcher; 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren as well as her nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Stephen, daughter, Thelma, sisters, Ivy (Bennett), Hazel (Oates) and Ina (Earle).
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 3 p.m., Saturday, April 13, 2013, at the Anglican Church of Christ the King with Rev. Laura McCue officiating. Reception to follow at the Cedar’s Club, MacKenzie Street.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Church of the Resurrection.
The family would like to thank the staff of the ICU at the CBRH for their care and compassion given to Gwen.
