The death of Mary May (Downing) Bateman, 91, of Port Elgin, occurred at the Westford Nursing Home on Wednesday, March 27, 2013.
Born in Shemogue, Mary was a daughter of the late Arthur and Eugenie (Jacob) Downing.
Mary will be sadly missed by her two sons, Arthur "Doug" and Wayne, both of Port Elgin; three daughters, Janet (Roger) LeBlanc, Judy Bateman, and Sandra (Joe) Lucci, all of Baie Verte; fourteen grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
Besides her parents, Mary was predeceased by her husband John in 1964; a daughter, Barbara Leger; a grandson, Tony; four brothers, Leo, Tannis, Andrew and Adolphe and four sisters, Susan, Dora, Lucy, and Rita.
Arrangements were entrusted to the care and supervision of Jones Funeral Chapel, 3 West Main Street, Port Elgin (538-2241) from where visitation was held 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, March 28, 2013, The funeral service followed on Friday, March 29, at 11 a.m. Interment will be at the Fernwood Cemetery in the spring. Celebrant Pam Harrison officiating.
Donations in memory of Mary may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of the donor's choice.
