Eva Gertude MacDonald, 100, a resident of Beacon Crescent, North Sydney, died quietly Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Little Bay West, N.L., Gertrude was the daughter of the late Simeon T. and Edith I. (Warren) May.
Gertrude was a devoted member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, North Sydney. She was a proud member of Dorcas and enjoyed the weekly quilting sessions. She spent many hours reading her Bible. Gertrude loved to crochet and shared her beautiful creations with family and friends. She recently enjoyed a wonderful 100th birthday party in September. She was a very quiet, shy and elegant lady, we will miss her so very much. Gertrude was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Surviving are her two daughters, Elizabeth MacDonald, North Sydney, and Patricia MacPhail, Sydney River; and one son, Kitchener (Carol) MacDonald, Baddeck. She was so proud of her six grandchildren, Carrie and Robbie MacDonald, Barry (Diane), Charlene (Greg), Robbie and Jamie MacPhail. She dearly loved her three precious great-grandchildren Kaitlin, Samantha and Drew.
She was predeceased by her husband Daniel MacDonald, her twelve siblings and son-in-law Barry MacPhail.
A private family visitation will be held in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Lloyd Steeves officiating. Burial at a later date at Harbourview Cemetery, South Haven.
