It is with great sadness, we the family of Joseph Day, age 86, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, announce his sudden passing on Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Harbour Breton, Nfld., Joseph was the son of the late Joseph and Emma (Langdown) Day.
He worked for many years as a steward on the Marine Atlantic vessels until his retirement. Joe had a passion for boats and loved spending time near the water and building his miniature dories.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family and a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney.
Joseph is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Anne (Evans) Day; his five sons, George (Judy), Balls Creek, Calvin (Cynthia), Ron (Valerie), both of North Sydney, Joe (April), Timberlea, and Ward (Wendy), Toronto; his 12 grandchildren, Heather, Krissy, Greg, Jordan, Mike, Nicole, Courtney, Meagan, Nathan, Miranda, Adam and MacKenzie and three great-grandchildren, Bramwell, Bradlee and Benjamin.
Joseph was predeceased by a son, William Day and sisters, Sarah Langdown, Gertie Bungay and Mabel Moore.
Visitation for Joseph will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Friday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church with Rev. Carl Fraser officiating. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
Family flowers only, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of choice.
