It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of our dear wife, mother and grandmother, Joan Gibbons, on Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish.
Born in Tillsonburg, Ont. on July 22, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Allan and Jean (MacDonald) Marshall, and her biological father, Ivan Berdan.
Joan worked for many years with National Sea and the Alder Point Fish Plant. She enjoyed her Tuesday night bowling, and going to horse shows. She also coached her daughters’ baseball team at one time. She was loved by everyone who knew her, especially her family and friends, and will be sadly missed.
Joan leaves behind her loving husband, Bobby Gibbons; daughters, Irene and Linda, both of Sydney Mines and her baby, Roberta (Craig Farmer), Whitney Pier; granddaughters, Meagan and Casey Lynn; brothers, Rick (Paivi) Marshall, Gary Marshall, and sister, Pat (Ken) Esseltine, all of Ontario; brother-in-law, John Gibbons (Sandra); sister-in-law, Kay Meers; special niece, Sue Playson, many nieces and nephews, and her special friends James and Esther MacKinnon, and Marie Taylor.
The family would like to thank the paramedics, the staff at Strait Richmond Hospital, St. Martha’s Hospital I.C.U., for their kindness and compassion. They would also like to thank Myles Gardiner for being there for them at this difficult time.
