It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ethel MacDowell, 72, which occurred Feb. 10, 2010, at the Baddeck Regional Hospital, after a long and courageous fight with cancer.
Ethel was the daughter of the late Fred and Adelade Carey. She grew up and attended school in Aylsford, N.S., and commenced work in the local post office. She went to work in five different Canadian provinces as well as in the Cayman Islands spanning 24 years of service with Scotia Bank, as well as fulfilling an early desire to be an airline stewardess, all in all she spent 12 years in the Carribean on five different Islands accompanying her husband who worked for a Canadian Corporation, retiring in New Campbellton, N.S. in 1996.
After retirement, she enjoyed annual trips to Florida where she practised her golf. She took an active part in local New Campbellton community activities and immediately fell in love with country life. Despite not being a Cape Bretoner, she was very appreciative of being accepted in the community and was made to feel very much like a local.
