BLADES, David Lance – March 20th, 1957 – April 13th, 2013. Dave was a wonderful, kind and devoted husband to his loving wife Linda (Peterson). Dave asked Linda 12 years ago if she would like to dance and from that time on they became inseparable. Dave and Linda’s life was filled with laughter, kindness, gratitude and a love that will never be broken. Dave loved his mother Pauline (O’Connell) Blades, of Yarmouth very much. Dave and his mom would often make rappie pie’s for family holidays. Dave and his mom both made awesome rappie pie’s, but both would always say, “It’s not quite right”. Dave loved his brothers, Loran (Lynn Pyne) and Johnny (Denise Holland), both of Yarmouth, very much. Dave and his brothers spent many weekends hunting and fishing together with other family members and friends. Dave loved his sister, Sharon Hanf (Jim LeBlanc), of Yarmouth, very much. Dave was very close to his sister Sharon and they would often share stories of the fun times they all had growing up together. They spoke often of their cousins and family from New Brunswick and told many stories of the fun summers they had. This they would do while playing cards, as playing cards with family and friends was one of Dave’s favorite pass-times. Dave always had a special place in his heart for his sister Kim Blades (Craig Richardson), of Yarmouth. Dave was like a brother and a father figure to Kim as she was born into the family when Dave was 14. Dave loved his stepchildren, Amanda MacKay, of Yarmouth, and James MacKay, of Halifax and treated them as if they were his own. Dave had five step-grandchildren that he loved dearly: Alex, Teaghan and Madisyn MacKay, of Shelburne, and Lauchlan and Landon MacMay, of Halifax. Dave loved children and this showed in how he treated his numerous nieces and nephews with gifts and kindness. Dave had a special relationship with his nephew Austin Lefave, of Yarmouth as they spent many hours together playing video games and watching movies. Dave was predeceased by his loving dad, Joseph Blades. Dave and his dad, for many years, made wooden ornaments that were displayed in the yard at Christmas. Dave loved everything about Christmas and continued to display the outside wooden ornaments every year. Dave was also predeceased by a nephew, Kirk Hanf and a brother-in-law, Harold Hanf. Dave’s first job was at John’s Cove Fisheries driving a forklift and trucking lobsters. The next 30 plus years he worked for Aberdeen Paving and he truly loved his job. Dave took great pride in his work and paved roads from Yarmouth to Halifax. Dave felt that many of his co-workers were more like his extended family as they spent 60 – 70 hour weeks together. Dave was a gunsmith for many years, which he did from his home when he lived on Pleasant Street. Dave spent many hours at Dooly’s playing pool and was one of the first to make the 500 hour list. Dave loved Nascar Racing and was a Dale Earnhart fan all the way. Dave loved working with wood and made wonderful crafts for family and friends. For all of us who were blessed enough to have him in our lives, it’s a little unclear right now what life will be like without him. It goes without saying that he will be deeply missed, not just by his family and many friends, but everyone whose life he touched. Funeral arrangements were under the care and direction of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth, with a visitation from 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, April 17 in the funeral home in Yarmouth, where a memorial service was held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Rev. Bill Newell officiated. An interment will be held at a later date. Memorial donations in David’s memory may be made to the Yarmouth Hospital Foundation Fund for Cancer. This money stays in Yarmouth to help pay for cancer patients drugs. Donations can be made at Huskilson’s Funeral Home, in Yarmouth. Family flowers only.
