It is with deep sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of our much loved wife, mother, sister and grandmother, Brenda Elizabeth Gillard on Tuesday, April 16, 2013. She passed away at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Glace Bay she was the daughter of the late James and Becky (Sharpe) Barrett.
Brenda taught nursing at the City Hospital and enjoyed being able to care for patients while working as a registered nurse at the Glace Bay General Hospital.
She contributed to her community through volunteer work, canvassing for the Heart and Stroke Foundation and selling daffodils for the Canadian Cancer Society.
Most of all, she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, who were her pride and joy.
Brenda will be sadly missed by her husband, Art; daughters, Wendy (David), Port Morien, Jennifer (Michel) Arichat; son, Arthur (Liz), California. She is also survived by her four beloved grandchildren, Scott, Jenna, Liam, Abbey. Brenda will be sadly missed by sisters, Nancy (Ernie), Sheila (Dan), Diane (Brad) and brothers, Vince (Charlotte), Bobby (Betty), Terry (Debbie), Tony (Cindy) and Timmy.
Bedsides her parents, Brenda was predeceased by an infant daughter, Carol Jean and a sister, Beverly in infancy.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Patten Funeral Home.
Memorial service will take place on Saturday, April 20, 2013, at 11 a.m. in the Patten Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Vernon Reid officiating.
