Allie Louise Daley, 97, of Amherst, passed away peacefully Wednesday April 17, 2013 surrounded by loved ones at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Amherst, Nova Scotia.
Born in Lewis Mountain, N.B. December 9, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Agnes (Morton) and Joseph Geldart. She is survived by her daughter, Avalon, Toronto Ont.; son, Blake (Vicki), Amherst; grandsons, David (Tracey), Toronto, Seth, Halifax; granddaughters, Stacia (Al), Toronto, Sara, Halifax; great grandson, Timothy, Toronto; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 41 years, William "Bill"; six siblings, Greta, Austin, Stella, Peg, Ellen and Vaughan; an infant daughter, Allison Garda; son-in-law, David.
Allie packed a lot of love and joy into her 97 years. She fondly remembered exciting adventures with Bill, memorable summers aboard the Huntress, and treasured family days at the cottage. She was however, never so happy as when she was involved with her life and work in life. She was a successful businesswoman for many years working beside her husband, and was passionately involved in her lifelong community commitments through IODE, the Cumberland Health Authority, and Trinity- St. Stephen's United Church among others. She had many loving friends who often sought her out for a cup of tea or an afternoon of bridge.
The family extends sincere gratitude to her treasured friend, Dr. Bienkowski, the amazing nurses of second floor surgical and to her truly wonderful homecare companions. Allie attracted people into her life like bees to honey. Those who knew her and loved her know they will never be the same because of how she touched their lives.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Friday April 19 at Campbell's Funeral Home, 98 Church Street Amherst, N.S. 667-9906. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday April 20 at Trinity -St. Stephen's United Church 1 Ratchford Street Amherst, N.S. A private family interment will take place at a later date in Amherst Cemetery. Family flowers only please. Donations in memory may be made to a charity of choice.
